Description of above

WHAT: "Wearing the Painting," an Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington's featured exhibition by artist Jane Matranga

WHEN:  Through October 22

WHERE: Flex Space in the Arts Alliance Center in College Mall, between Dick's Sporting Goods and Target.

If you're wondering if it hurts her to see people wearing her art, Jane Matranga says no. "I am thrilled to see women in my designs." In fact, she often slips into a piece or two of her own designs.

Jane earned her BFA in painting from the University of Cincinnati and her master's degree in fashion design from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She works in a variety of genres and media, such as abstracts, portraits, fabric design and landscapes using watercolor, oil, colored pencils, charcoal, acrylic and dyes.

Genetic? Jane's mother loved clothes, looked good in them and sewed for herself and her daughters. Janes's father was an exceptional artist and taught Jane to draw. Both parents encouraged Jane's art interests, and she ended up doing art, fashion and teaching.

A member of Bloomington Watercolor Society and Bloomington Portrait Group Jane paints in watercolor, oil and acrylic.

"I use dyes to paint the silks, cotton and linen I use for my clothing and pet portraits."

Which other fashion designers does Jane enjoy? A few are Elsa Schiaparelli, Issey Miyake, Alexander McQueen and Iris Van Herpen.
